Speaking to the IBTimes after winning the Best Game BAFTA for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Naughty Dog director of communications Arne Mayer dropped a hint regarding The Lost Legacy’s length, suggesting that it may clock in at about 10 hours long. In response to the question as to how the studio’s upcoming title transitioned from being DLC to a standalone adventure, Mayer stated that the development team didn’t have the “self-discipline” to constrain themselves creatively when developing a new game, and all the ideas for The Lost Legacy ultimately pushed the game’s length towards the 10 hour campaign mark.
Having previously teased that The Lost Legacy will contain the series’ largest level, a lengthy campaign spanning over 10 hours will certainly be music to fans’ ears. As it stands, Naughty Dog’s upcoming title is certainly shaping up to be something unique to the Uncharted series, given how The Lost Legacy started life as a DLC idea before becoming a full game.
Following discussions over the future direction of the franchise following Nathan Drake’s final adventure, which included the possibility of Uncharted 5, Naughty Dog ultimately settled on a standalone story set after Uncharted 4 starring Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross. While Nathan Drake won’t be making an appearance, it certainly appears that the studio isn’t having any problems ensuring that The Lost Legacy will be a large-scale extravaganza that rivals all its predecessors, especially if the 10 hour game length does end up holding true.
It ultimately remains to be seen how long the upcoming Uncharted title will be, but if The Lost Legacy does end up being the last game in the series, it appears that Naughty Dog are making sure that the franchise goes out in the most appropriate way possible - with an large-scale, epic adventure.
